Child & Family Therapy and Counseling

At Philip R. Taft & Associates, we understand how challenging it can be when a child or family member is struggling. Our Child & Family Therapy & Counseling services are designed to support children, teens, parents and whole families—helping restore hope, connection and healthy communication.

Why Choose Child & Family Therapy?

Children and adolescents face unique emotional, behavioral and relational issues—whether it’s anxiety, defiance, school difficulties, family conflict, or parenting challenges. Sometimes families carry patterns, knowingly or not, that affect daily life: strained communication, unresolved trauma, sibling rivalry, blended-family stress or transitions.

By working with both the child or teen, and the family system, child-and-family therapy helps identify underlying dynamics, improve relationships, and build stronger support around each individual.

Our Approach:
Collaborative, Tailored, Strength-Based

We believe that therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, tailored, and strength-based. At Philip R. Taft & Associates:

  • We begin with an assessment of your child’s needs, family dynamics, school/home interactions and strengths.

  • We develop an individualized plan to help the child or teen, and engage parents or caregivers in meaningful ways—because change happens in relationship.

  • Our work supports not just symptom reduction but also skill-building: better emotional regulation, improved communication, strengthened parent-child attachment, refined coping strategies.

  • We integrate proven therapeutic techniques that work for children & families such as play-therapy, family-systems work, behavior-management strategies, and when appropriate neuro-psychological or psycho-educational assessment.

  • We offer flexibility: in-office sessions, phone-based therapy, and video counseling sessions if preferred, all a welcoming environment for both children and adults.

How Families Benefit

  • Parents/Caregivers gain practical tools to support their child’s growth, navigate difficult behaviors, and foster a healthier family climate.

  • Children and Teens feel seen, heard and helped—they improve emotional awareness, behavior, self-esteem and peer/school relationships.

  • Families as a Whole move toward greater harmony: better communication, fewer clashes, more shared understanding and connection.

  • Early intervention means fewer patterns become entrenched—and your family can move toward a healthier future sooner.
